Different media can be used in combination for art work. It makes the process of art more interesting and varied. Anything can be used to make art, including paints, plastic, film, foam, sand, texture, collage materials like papers and cloth, textiles and card, plasters and clays, organic and manufactured materials . The range of materials is extensive, using many textured and dimensional media, as well as all conventional media. This course is especially helpful for students who have ideas of their own but do not know how to pull it all together in terms of composition and technical cohesion.
Common combinations of mixed media include some kind of paint like acrylics, oils or watercolour with charcoal, pastels or pencil, but can also be extended to include clay, saw dust, diluents like turpentine or thinners or vinegar and even organics like sugar and flour as layering techniques. Distempered surfaces, s'graffito (scratching off)and the inclusion of many other instruments make mixed media very attractive for art adventurers.
